Out-of-town heavyweights can pack the Rickshaw Theatre, but a couple of newly introduced layout options for the venue will make it so smaller acts can rock the joint without playing to an uncomfortable concrete cavern.

While the lobby has been used since March to host locals such as Chris-a-Riffic and Prophecy Sun, booker Stephen Lyons tells the Straight that the Rickshaw’s main room has also been tweaked, with curtains separating the stage and floor area from the seats that run to the back of the room. With this new configuration, Lyons says, “even a show with a hundred people feels really happening.”

Both the lobby and partitioned main room will get the grand-opening treatment tonight (May 17), with sets from No Sinner, Headwater, Chrissy and Ry-Ry, and more.
