Vancouver’s own Jins celebrate the release of their new album ‘It’s a Life’ with guests Bealby Point, Slightest Clue, and Autonomous Apes!
The Jins
In a big blue house on the eastside of Vancouver, the Jins were born. Now, whether you consider the birth date of a band their first show, or the day they decided on their path, it doesn’t matter, because it all happened in that blue house. 2014’s Hallowe’en show was a tentpole for that early sound, and if you don’t know Vancouver, shows almost never happen in houses there. The city breathes a heavy lung full of NIMBY behaviour, so kicking off their journey by cold-rocking the neighbourhood is the way to become the stuff of legends.
The Jins are a wonderful product of managing to create something fantastic out of a tough situation. They come from a city where only the plucky survive, and their output, whether it’s the upcoming release, or being one of the most beloved seven inches released on Kingfisher Bluez, is melted down, purest Vancouver. They are resilient, they are beautiful, they are melancholic, and they are unique. Compare them to their contemporaries all you wish, but just know that The Jins are their city’s heroes of jangle and fuzz, and will be coming to yours soon.
Bealby Point
Bealby Point has spent the better part of three years with one goal in mind: capturing the most cherished memory of your favourite summer and turning it into the perfect sound.
Not unlike a gang of kids from a Stephen King novel, the boys spent their roaming youth sneaking out to parties, riding bikes, and exploring the night in the sprawling suburbs of Deep Cove, a coastal neighbourhood of North Vancouver. The name Bealby Point, derives from the boys’ favorite beachside vacation spot in the British Columbian interior – it was (and still is) an important beacon of inspiration when putting the final touches on their songwriting, among being a place of solitude from everyday life.
Slightest Clue
Slightest Clue is a Vancouver-based four-piece that probably shouldn’t work. Each member brings distinct influences and experiences: a stage actor whose playlists go from Talking Heads to Sonic Youth to Björk, a hook-obsessed recovering choir girl, an electrical engineer whose personal idol is John Bonham, and a guitarist who played for (and left) ten other bands before deciding this was the one for him. It’s like the secret after-school project of four kids who would have passed each other without a glance in the hallway at school – but once they’re plugged in and ready to play, all bets are off. It wasn’t supposed to work, but it does, and they don’t have the slightest clue how or why.
Autonomous Apes
Autonomous Apes is a rock band born from a loving relationship between 90s grunge era and Russian Eternal Depression. Originally the band began in 2020 in St-Petersburg, Russia by the frontman Egor Kopshar and his best friend Vladimir Morozov, but since moved to Vancouver, BC where its more active presence in the music scene began.
