With an eruptive emo sound that embraces the edges of pop and hardcore, don’t miss Sweet Pill live at the Rickshaw on February 19th with guests, Winona Forever and Buddie.
Sweet Pill
Sweet Pill’s sophomore album, Still There’s a Glow, is a hard-fought document of self-reflection and growth. It is raw and real, stacked with a lyrical honesty that’s matched by singer Zayna Youssef’s soaring, expressive vocals. Written and recorded in the wake of a whirlwind three years following their 2022 debut LP, Where the Heart Is–and after scrapping essentially an entire album’s worth of demos–Still There’s a Glow is a dynamic, cathartic journey of making conscious change within oneself.
Winona Forever
Vancouver’s Winona Forever combine spicy rock riffs and arts and crafts rhythms to create delicious ready-to-listen pop songs. Since 2015 the band has been releasing music that embraces the warm and free spirited leanings of home recording, producing a sound that is equal parts fresh and timeless.
Buddie
Contrast is the heart of grunge, and turning the vocals dial from 90s Seattle to sunny Vancouver makes it even starker. Buddie’s grunge pop hooks set off its big drums and fuzz pedals, rising and then dialing way back again like waves in heavy weather.
It neatly mirrors a Philly transplant’s wonder at the west coast, right as it hits the reality of scraping by in the present dystopia. Prepare to be serenaded by your best new Buddie and their two month old album, Glass – out now on clear viny
