Art Bergmann

Truly great musicians defy categorization. They often defy adjectives as well, which makes them difficult to write about. That is where Art Bergmann lies: between the facts and the superlatives.

At the end of 2020 Art Bergmann was honored to be appointed to The Order Of Canada, recognized for what the Governor General’s office calls his, “indelible contributions to the Canadian punk music scene, and for his thought-provoking discourse on social, gender and racial inequalities.” Known for his sharply political, anti-establishment lyrics, Art said he wants to divert any publicity generated by his appointment toward pressuring the federal government over its failure to provide adequate housing and clean water to First Nations. “ShadowWalk” is Art Bergmann’s tenth studio full length album released under his own name and is the follow up to his well-received Polaris Music Prize Long Listed nominated record “Late Stage Empire Dementia” which came out in 2021 on (weewerk).

“ShadowWalk” is Art’s ode to Sherri Decembrini, his late wife who passed away in the spring of 2022, which beautifully captures the darkness of grief and desolation of loss and is a testament to their committed love in marriage for over 25 years. “ShadowWalk” features twelve new songs that are devastatingly honest and sonically compelling, featuring a gifted song writer who is dealing with the loss of his great love and all the grief, anger and sorrowful emotions that come about as a result of such a devastating, soul crushing loss.

Produced by Russell Broom and Wes Smith, the recording features Art Bergmann on Vocals, Spoken Word, Electric and Acoustic Guitars, the album also features Russell Broom on Electric Guitar, Sonic Soundscapes and Atmospheric Effects along with additional performers Paul Rigby (Steel Guitar), Aidan Farrell (Vocals), Owen Owen Owen (Bass), Adam Drake (Drums), Sunny Matharu (Tabla) and Katie Mosehauer & the Glass Heart String Orchestra (Strings).
