Cynic and Atheist bring their co-headlined “Focus and Presence” tour to the Rickshaw stage with guests Thirteen Goats!

Cynic

Cynic is a progressive metal band from Miami, Florida, that combines technical death metal with jazz fusion and philosophical lyrics. They released the masterpiece album Focus in 1993 revered as the pinnacle in progressive death metal. After disbanding twice in the 1990s, Cynic reformed in 2006 and released two more albums: Traced in Air (2008) and Kindly Bent to Free Us (2014). With their intricate and technical style, they have earned a cult following among metal fans around the world.

Atheist

Atheist is a technical death metal band from Sarasota, Florida, that incorporates progressive metal and jazz influences into their sound. Founded in 1984 by Kelly Shaefer, Rand Burkey, Roger Patterson (RIP) and Steve Flynn, the band released three albums in the early 1990s: their debut album Piece of Time in 1990, followed by their masterpiece Unquestionable Presence in 1991, and finally Elements in 1993. Atheist is regarded as one of the pioneers of the technical death metal genre, along with bands like Death and Cynic. The band broke up in 1994, but reunited in 2006 and released a fourth album, Jupiter, in 2010. Atheist’s music is characterized by complex rhythms, intricate guitar work, and thought-provoking lyrics that challenge the status quo.

Thirteen Goats

Eclectic, over the top, and not afraid to get weird, THIRTEEN GOATS creates a blend of different genre hallmarks that’s as hooky as it is heavy. This ain’t your dad’s death metal, but we kept the best parts.
