Deefhoof
For a band made up of vegetarians and teetotalers, Deerhoof certainly have aged like a fine wine. They’ve influenced generations of experimental and indie musicians, while continuing to reinvent themselves with each release. They continue to play with the same joy and fury they have since their mid-90s birth. They’ve created a catalogue spanning more than 20 acclaimed albums ranging from surrealistic pop to urgent art-punk.
Fronted by the unmistakeable voice and presence of Satomi Matsuzaki, Deerhoof’s music moves between chaos and precision, where jagged hard-rock riffs collide with playful melodies and tightly wound rhythms erupt into exhilarating bursts of sound. Their live shows are loud, chaotic, playful, and impossibly tight. Expect distorted twin guitars, crazed drumming, sudden tempo changes, and the kind of energy that turns a room upside down.
Still Depths
Still Depths is a Vancouver-based music project formed in Calgary in 2019. Their sound swerves from hardcore chaos and heavy industrial thrashing to frenetic noise improvisation and groove-driven post-punk. A Still Depths performance is unpredictable, fusing noise-driven guitars, pounding electronic rhythms, frantic drumming, angular vocals, and live sampling.
