Vancouver alternative rock group Econoline Crush play the Rickshaw this October with support from Crystal Pistol and BAD MNY!

Econoline Crush

When The Devil Drives is the latest album from Canadian rock veterans Econoline Crush, formed some 30 years ago by frontman Trevor Hurst, now the sole original member. The band’s first full-length album in over a decade, and documentary film, Flatlander, about a rocker from Brandon, Manitoba’s second career as a psychiatric nurse, will be out later this year. Produced by one-time Miniatures frontman Ian Alexander Smith (SATE, Cassie DaSilva) and mixed by the legendary Jack Joseph Puig, two of the nine songs feature David “Ziggy” Sigmund, who played guitar in Econoline Crush from 1997-2002 and rejoined in 2010. He passed away suddenly in March 2022, just as the album was getting mixed. The two songs they wrote together, the empowering industrial-strength rocker “Invincible” and soaring 90s Brit-pop style “Smashing Optimistic,” are the first two singles. Another single is the groovy rant and motivational anthem “No Quitter” and mechanical spark “Going Under,” which addresses Trevor’s depression. Originally based in Vancouver, Econoline Crush formed in 1992 and signed with EMI Music Canada in ‘94, debuting that year with the EP, Purge. The ground breaking band, which fused industrial music with rock at a time when “keyboards” were typically used in pop music, followed it up with the full-length Affliction in 1996, and their ultimate breakthrough, the platinum-selling The Devil You Know.

Crystal Pistol

Crystal Pistol emerged from Vancouver’s gritty streets in 2001—a five‑piece sleaze‑rock outfit hell-bent on shattering expectations. Frontman Mik Ireland, lead-driven riffs from Pinto Stiletto and Brian Bresett, thunderous basslines by Greg Laikin, and pulse‑pounding rhythms from Dave Troutman forged a sound steeped in rock rebellion.

Their 2005 self-titled debut—an 11‑track blitz of guns-blazing hooks and raw energy—spawned underground anthems like “Rockstar,” “Watch You Bleed,” and “Live Fast Die Young.” Though Canadian radio played hardball, fans in Europe and beyond embraced the band’s live ferocity and unapologetic attitude.

Crystal Pistol disbanded in 2008, but their storied performances, DIY ethos, and sleaze‑rock flair earned them cult status. They reunited in 2024 for a blistering summer show at Wise Hall, proving their legacy still bleeds adrenaline.

After years in the shadows, something brewing beneath the surface. Whispers of new recordings are circling, but the band’s playing it close to the vest. One thing’s certain: the fuse is lit, and when it blows, it won’t be quiet.
Rock never dies—it waits in the dark.

BAD MNY

Combining elements of Rock, Funk and Electronic music, BADMNY has established a voice of their own and has become known for their over-the-top showmanship and crowd pleasing grooves. Composed of drummer Terran Eason, bassist/vocalist Gabriel Michel, and guitarist/vocalist Emmett Jerome, the three-piece formed at the beginning of 2022. With pounding drums, distorted bass, and searing electric guitar alongside pop influenced vocals, BADMNY is a hot young trio on the rise.
