Join us to celebrate women in music with some of Vancouver’s most talented femme-bands: Hyaenas, Cat Madden, Tess Anderson, Hot Spell, Cordie M.Sad, all hosted by LA’s beloved muso-comic Melissa Strype.

Hyaenas

Hyaenas is an Indie Alt Pop band known for their fierce energy, queer feminist edge, and infectious sound that fuses 80’s nostalgia with a modern influence. With standout performances at Folk On The Rocks (NWT), Warriors Pride Night (Rogers Arena) and a sold out EP release performance at Fox Cabaret (Vancouver), Hyaenas has quickly made their mark. Their debut EP Little Trophy charted nationally, landed sync placements in Netflix’s ‘My Life with the Walter Boys’, and has garnered over 150k streams worldwide. For fans of Metric, The Go-Go’s, and The Beaches, Hyaenas delivers powerful songs that hit hard and stay with you.

Cat Madden

Cat Madden’s has been referred to as “an opera singer mixed with a Husqvarna chainsaw…” with songs that “eloquently
blur the lines between rock, soul and jazz” and… she’ll blow your bloody doors off.
Her music is drenched in soul & talent; her band pulling members from the Rare Americans, Dallas Smith, Brass Camel, Five Alarm Funk, Ruby Waters & more. Cat’s lyrics touch on moments of emotional processing in her life, and often highlight issues to do with the climate, women’s rights and mental health. She also has a funny song about peanut butter and jam. Her intimate shows are a chance to hear her stories, to laugh at her awkward but hilarious demeanour and then cry at her genuine performance of “Love Everyone”. Bring a tissue. The band has been likened to groups as diverse as Tedeschi Trucks Band, Norah Jones, Jeff Buckley, Little Feat, Heart, and Alabama Shakes & Radiohead. Expect a transcendent, emotionally powerful, refreshingly genuine performance intertwined with witty banter and astonishing talent. Cat strives to be an ambassador for women in music, gradually building an all-female band, organizing femme-musician events, mentoring artists through her coaching work and being one of the most powerful singers you’ve ever heard.

Tess Anderson

After nearly a decade of chasing sounds that didn’t quite fit, Vancouver-based Tess Anderson found clarity in the chaos of alt-rock. Channeling both defiance and vulnerability, she fronts a powerhouse six-piece band known for high-octane, emotionally charged performances. Inspired by acts like Paramore and Nothing But Thieves, her music strikes a collision between gritty distortion and glossy pop hooks.
Her 2024 debut album Before I Come Unhinged is a visceral dive into self-reclamation and breaking toxic cycles. With over 180,000 streams to date, it’s earned features in Billboard Music Canada and Exclaim!, along with national airplay on CBC. A relentless live performer, Tess recently wrapped up her first Western Canada headline tour, opened for Canadian heavy-hitters Mother Mother, and secured slots at major festivals across British Columbia.

Hot Spell

Hot Spell is a four piece hard rock band from Ladner, BC Canada. Formed in 2022, this group of individual power houses quickly morphed into an absolute unit covering the likes of Deep Purple, Van Halen, Black Sabbath and RUSH. Their original songs, inspired by the legends they covered, merge electric riffs and melodic rhythm with powerful vocals creating a sound that will easily have you caught in a Hot Spell.

Cordie M. Sad

Cordie M. Sad is a Vancouver-based art-rock band fronted by vocalist Cordelia Donovan. Blending gritty guitar textures, haunting sax, and raw lyricism, their sound channels influences like No Doubt, Black Sabbath, and Paramore. With songs rooted in topics of mental health, from grief and insecurity to sleep paralysis, Cordie M. Sad transforms personal pain into cathartic, emotionally charged performances. Their debut EP Monsters and single “You Don’t Talk To Me Anymore” have earned them headlining slots at The Rickshaw Theatre and Fox Cabaret, making them a rising force in Canada’s alt-rock scene.
