Indie songwriter Hazlett was born and raised in Australia but if the past few years are anything to go by, he’s very much bloomed in Sweden. An old friend, one big break-up and playing Oasis’ “Wonderwall” in pubs three nights a week was the unplanned cocktail of moments that saw him throw adulthood to the wayside and venture to the other side of the world. While he was up in Sweden Hazlett’s unique brand of “Indie Ballroom Folk” really came to life after spending time with his close friend and now collaborator Freddy Alexander. A lot has changed since then and what started as just writing songs to “figure out some things in his head…” has now become a whole world of music and beautiful detail to move through. Even though the nerves never quite go away, there’s this newfound quiet confidence to the troubadour from the land down under. You may not have met, but sometimes when you’re listening to Hazlett he feels like the only friend you’ve ever had.
Hayden Everett
In early college, Hayden Everett worked as a camp counselor just outside of Yosemite National Park. Strangers became his dearest friends in just weeks, and they made it a frequent habit to set out on nearby trails past dark. Walking steadily for hours with just the light of the moon, they’d settle into a rhythm maintained by the sound of their footsteps and an occasional river. They’d lie down, far from the world but closer to it than ever. Hayden Everett can’t help but take a huge breath as he looked up at the Milky Way. In this moment he felt alive, and more aware of how precious that is.
Hayden Everett strives to make songs that sound like how those nights feel.
They’d return from those days and nights to a new set of kids, who were consistent reminders that the feeling of awe should never fade in us.
Experiencing wonder and awe is Hayden Everett’s priority. He can only be an effective storyteller if he has captivating stories to tell. The sentiments Hayden Everett sings about are empty if he’s not living them. With that, he’s sorry in advance if he disappears for chunks of time; know that he is filling up pages with sentiments and stories that he’ll share with you later.
Hayden Everett believes in music’s universal ability to make us all feel our most human. The more human we feel, the more gratitude we’ll have for the short time we’ve all got together.
Hayden Everett believe in prioritizing people and the planet.
He promises to use music to make more tangible the urgency of equality, environmentalism, mental health awareness, and social justice.
Hayden Everett trusts you to hold him to these priorities and demand music that reflects them.
He hopes that his songs compel you to spend more nights under the stars.
He hopes his music is a worthy soundtrack to your drives through the mountains, your days home alone, your celebrations, and your times of sadness.
He hope that his songs enhance your time here, both passively and directly.
He hopes they resonate with you, but also challenge you and spur questions and growth.
He prays that his songs are of great use to you.
Hayden currently resides in Seattle, WA and balances backpacking and time in the outdoors with making music under his main project as well as side projects Captain Kidd (lofi jazz) and Fog Machine (sleep / wellness).
