Concrete Vehicles (FKA Computer) headlines the Rickshaw for a special homecoming show / tour kick off for Hillsboro with WAIT//LESS, & LöLä!

Concrete Vehicles

Concrete Vehicles (formerly Computer) is a band from Vancouver that originated as a recording project between lifelong friends Hudson Schelesny and Ben Lock. As their recordings developed, the songs became too chaotic and nuanced to play live with a normal band which got them excited about expanding into a larger group. Fast forward a year and Concrete Vehicles is a fully formed seven piece working on transforming their songs to embrace a wider range of instrumentation including saxophone, synths, and percussion. They have played over 50 shows across Canada and Europe. Upcoming performances include appearances at JUNOfest, the acclaimed return of Vans Warped Tour in Montreal, and two Toronto shows alongside Alexisonfire and Underoath.

The debut album, Station On The Hill was written over the course of a year and recorded in the studio attached to the iconic Green Auto venue in Vancouver. The songs progressed drastically in form since the initial demos by the improvisational nature of the live show and the end result is something the band are incredibly proud of. The goal was to create something visual and cathartic that could hold your attention throughout the whole record.

Certain songs were written through long periods of time like “Concrete Vehicles,” “I’ll Follow,” and the title track which evolved as they were quite difficult to record due to their length and complexity, so the band would improvise these songs live. While tracks like “Now In A Vacuum,” “The Picture” and “Dissolution Use” all came together in one or two sessions and worked immediately. The band aims to capture their sound in a cohesive way that the audience can pick up the themes and narratives being told.

Hillsboro

Infusing the swirling sounds of early ‘90s shoegaze with an infectious rhythm section, haunting violin, and the plaintive lyrics of frontman Nima Walker, Hillsboro’s raw sound manages to strike a delicate balance between something nostalgic and something wholly its own. Creating a world in which fear and shame are excavated in an ecstatic fever.

WAIT//LESS

WAIT//LESS share an appreciation for heavy, fast, booming riffs. Fronted by raging bull Rebecca White, with throat shredding vocals which deliver both empathetic lyrical whimsy and total chaos. Trevor Stöddart (guitar), Allie Sheldan (bass) & Michael Weiss (drums) back White with equal parts precision and madness.

LöLä

LöLä is an experimental rock group from Vancouver. Introspective lyricism, ethereal soundscapes, and intense distorted tones combine to create a captivating performance that has become a growing force in the Vancouver music scene.
